Reflections from DFI - Day 9

Today we focused on the revision of the content we learned and tips on Google test. It was a good opportunity for us to revise what we know and add another certification that would be great on our CVs. If we passed, great. It will look great on our CV, with something different to add to my profile - not many teachers have those kind of certifications for professional development. If we didn't pass, it is 10 US dollars gone, but we still have done a 9 week course, and we now have a lot more tools on our hands that would help us. Whether I have passed or not, it was still a great learning opportunity, exploring different learning tools and creating things with it. 

Overall, I have found Create activities quite fun to do, and that was the most memorable as well. This gave me chance to think about what could work or what couldn't work with my own class. If I already knew some things, I could always use that time to extend myself abit more, if not, I could do things on my own pace, learning as I used it. The small bubbles we were in were useful to get personal help. I usually found it hard to ask questions when we are in a big group, and being in a small bubble made it much easier for me to ask questions. 

There are things I still haven't had chance to practice, and there are things that I know quite well. Maybe in the coming holiday I'll have more time to play with those as things have been busy since lockdown. I will continue to use these useful tools whenever needed.

    Congratulations on completing the DFI! It was great to have you in our bubble group. I'm glad you enjoyed the create activities, they are such a good opportunity to put your new learning into practice.

I attended Digital Fluency Intensive course run by Manaiakalani Trust today.  I have always felt in my classroom, that technology and ipads were just additional tools that I could use in the classroom, not necessarily needed. I didn't really use ipads in class and I recently started using it as part of my literacy programme. What I have learned today was that it doesn't have to be a side tool, and it can become a tool that students can use to use their imagination and improve their critical thinking skills. Reflections on DFI course - day 2

Today we learned about Google Keep, Google Meet, Google Calendar, and how to create events and hangout meets. I already had a Google Keep in my phone which I constantly used, but it was the first time for me to look at the PC version. While I knew how to do all the basic things, one thing I found really handy was that I could save anything I find online to Google Keep while I am browsing, which I couldn't do on mobile app. As for Google Meet and Google Calendar, I have done most of the things we were doing when we went to lock down, and I already knew how to record myself and how to present my screen. One thing I learned was to present my tap instead of my whole page. This was a useful tool to use if I wasn't trying to show others multiple taps at once, and I could also change the tab I was presenting quite easily with a click.  I learned how to get email about blog comments, which I find really handy.
